Renowned radio presenter Fred Machoka has called for urgent prayers to save the institution of marriage, citing the alarming rise in divorce cases across Kenya.
In a heartfelt plea, Machoka urged Kenyans to “earnestly pray for the institution of marriage, talaka zimezidi nchini Kenya” (divorce rates have increased in Kenya).
His statement, reported by The Kenyan Times, has sparked a wave of reactions from netizens, with many sharing their thoughts on the state of modern marriages.
James Kariuki linked the trend to cultural shifts, stating, “Since they came from Beijing – China, things have never been the same,” suggesting that changing societal norms have contributed to the instability of marriages.
Kamau Njenga pointed to financial pressures as a key factor, remarking, “Nowadays, they want money, not love. That’s why talaka zimezidi (divorces have increased).”
His comment reflects the growing sentiment that materialism is overshadowing the emotional foundations of marriage.
Charles took a more traditional stance, blaming gender dynamics for the crisis. He argued, “Women want to rule over their men. It is impossible today and forever.
As long as I’m alive, you can’t bring that here. You either toe the line or catch the next available return bus back to your parents.”
Machoka’s call for prayers highlights the growing concern over the fragility of marriages in Kenya.
As divorce rates continue to climb, his message resonates with many who believe that spiritual intervention and a return to core values are essential to preserving the sanctity of marriage.
