Former Citizen TV sports journalist Isaac Swila has announced his next move just days after confirming his departure from the Royal Media Services-owned station.

Swila revealed that he has joined the University of Missouri, popularly known as Mizzou, where he will pursue doctoral studies as he begins a new chapter away from mainstream television journalism.

The journalist shared the news on Saturday morning through his Facebook page, posting photographs taken at the prestigious American university.

In his message, Swila expressed excitement about the opportunity and said he was looking forward to expanding his knowledge, conducting research and developing further as a scholar.

He also mentioned his anticipation of learning, teaching and engaging with academic literature while working with graduate faculty at the institution. Swila specifically acknowledged the opportunity to study under Professor Warner, whom he described as part of the academic journey he was excited to begin.

The announcement comes shortly after the sports journalist revealed his exit from Citizen TV, where he had spent approximately nine years building a notable career in sports broadcasting.

During his time at the station, Swila became a familiar face to Kenyan sports audiences through his various responsibilities.

He hosted Sporty Monday, a popular sports programme that aired on Monday mornings, while also serving in leadership roles within the station’s sports department.

Swila previously worked as Head of Sports Centre and also served as a News Editor, taking on responsibilities beyond presenting.

His decision to pursue doctoral studies marks a major shift from television journalism to academia and research.

As he begins his studies at Mizzou, Swila appears poised to combine his professional experience with a deeper academic pursuit.

His announcement has already attracted congratulatory messages from colleagues, friends and followers wishing him success in his new scholarly journey.
