Several police officers have been transferred after a group of angry youth set a police station on fire. The incident happened in Homa Bay County, following the death of a young man, Albert Ojwang’.
Locals say the youth were angry because they felt police were involved in the young man’s death. They stormed the Mawego Police Station, carrying his body, and later set the building on fire. The fire destroyed important documents, office furniture, and parts of the structure.
After the attack, top police bosses acted fast. Officers who were based at the station have now been moved to other places. A new team has already been sent to take over and calm the situation.
One resident said, “We are tired of being ignored. We just want justice for Albert.”
The Inspector General of Police said investigations into the matter are ongoing. He promised that anyone found guilty, whether officer or civilian, will face the law.
The situation in the area is still tense. Police are urging people to remain calm as they look into what really happened.
This case has raised serious questions about police conduct and how complaints from citizens are handled.
