All eyes will be on President William Ruto who could be forced to appoint the new Inspector General of Police, the Head of State is faced with a big dilemma in his choice of the next IG.

Whereas the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja is only one year in office, his age has been a matter of debate in the past. He is currently 62 years old.

Kanja inherited Japheth Koome in 2024 having previously served as the Deputy Inspector General of Police in-charge of the Kenya Police Service wing.

At 62 years, Kanja has already surpassed the retirement age as directed by the President himself for public officers above 60 years to retire with immediate effect.

For the man who has somehow managed to redeem the image of the police service which sealed Koome’s fate, somehow, Kanja’s future could be in the hands of the President. Should he retire him and bring in new blood?
