Patrick Igunza is a well known media figure in Kenya who has built a strong career in broadcasting after growing up in Nairobi’s Karen area before later moving with his family to Dagoretti.
He is the last born in a family of seven children and was raised in a household shaped by modest working class backgrounds with his father employed at Karen Country Club and his mother working at Kazuri Beads.
After his parents retired,the family relocated from Karen to Racecourse in Dagoretti marking a major shift in lifestyle.
He attended St. Gabriel’s High School in Lindi near Kibera, following a difficult family decision that required him to join a more affordable school so his siblings could continue their education.
He later joined Yatta Mixed Secondary School where he developed a strong interest in music, entertainment, and school performances influenced by hip hop culture.
He pursued Mass Media studies at Multimedia University of Kenya between 2006 and 2009. During this period, he balanced academics with financial responsibilities,including photography work to support his young family life.
His media journey began with an internship at Citizen TV,where he made history as one of the first students from his institution to intern at the station and among the earliest interns to appear on air.
He later worked at K24 TV in 2013 before returning to Citizen TV as a business reporter and anchor.He has also worked with Royal Media Services and later joined Hot 96 FM,where he co hosts a morning show alongside Jeff Koinange,including popular food features that explore Kenyan street cuisine.
In his personal life,Igunza met his wife while in secondary school and the relationship grew into a long-term partnership that began shortly after O-level studies.
He became a father while still in college,balancing studies with family responsibilities.His first child was born when he was 22,followed by a second child before completing his studies and he is now a father of three.
His journey reflects a life shaped by early responsibility,resilience and steady growth in both family and media career.
