Pastor Victor Kanyari has been thrown into mourning following the death of a woman he once hoped to marry before his relationship with the late gospel singer Betty Bayo.
Kanyari shared the painful news with his congregation during a church service on Wednesday, September 9, where he spoke about the woman and the important role she played in his life when he was still struggling.
The preacher described his former girlfriend as a loyal companion who supported him before he became a well known pastor and acquired the wealth he enjoys today.
According to Kanyari, she was with him when he had little to show for himself. He recalled how she helped him with church activities and even cleaned his shoes, describing her actions as proof that she genuinely cared about him.
Their relationship became serious, with Kanyari saying he introduced her to his mother because he intended to marry her.
However, the relationship eventually ended after his mother raised concerns about the woman’s drinking habits. Kanyari said he tried to help her overcome the problem but later decided to move on.
The woman eventually married another man and had three children. Kanyari clarified that the children were not his, but said he continued supporting them by paying their school fees.
He also revealed that he had tried to help his former girlfriend enter rehabilitation so that she could overcome alcohol addiction. His efforts, however, did not succeed.
Kanyari said he was deeply saddened by her death and linked her long struggle with alcohol to the cancer that eventually claimed her life.
Despite their separation and her later marriage, the preacher said he never completely turned his back on her family.
He disclosed that he had already settled the mortuary expenses and promised to attend her burial.
Kanyari said he does not forget people who were part of his life, regardless of how their relationships eventually turned out.
His emotional account left some members of the congregation laughing while others appeared surprised by the revelation, as the pastor remembered a relationship from a difficult chapter of his past.
