Bandits in Turkana East Sub County are engaging security officers in a hide-and-seek game following reports of an attempted attack at Kainuk on Wednesday night.

In a brazen Wednesday evening attack, dozens of bandits ambushed Kenya Defense Forces and police officers in Kainuk and engaged them in a fierce shoot-out.

Kainuk is among areas declared as ‘disturbed and dangerous’ following increased banditry attacks, and armed criminals seem to give the security operation a dismissive shrug.

However, the security officers managed to repulse the armed bandits.

“Security officers from the nearby Rapid Deployment Unit camp successfully repulsed the bandits that retreated to the nearby hills. Nobody at the village was injured and no livestock was stolen,” he said.

Tension is still high at Kainuk town near the border of Turkana and West Pokot Counties after residents spotted armed bandits suspected to be on a revenge mission after they were repulsed by KDF and police officers near the bridge.

Deputy County Commissioner Saidi Safu Shabaan told Nation on the phone that around 7pm on Wednesday, bandits were sighted in Kainuk planning to attack residents.
