Hamas leader has dismissed the civilian casualties from recent hostilities in Gaza as a necessary price in blood, while also boasting that the terror group is ‘changing the Middle East.’
The extremist leader made these remarks while visiting the ruins of a high-rise building in Gaza city which had housed international media outlets, destroyed by Israeli air strikes during the recent escalation.
The Hamas leader added that his militant group had managed to break the equation of terror set by Israel. He further said that they had shown Israel is beatable. We can change the balance of power in the region. His remarks signal the uncompromising stance of the militant group, ignoring international condemnation over the significant loss of civilian lives during the recent hostilities.
His provocative words follow an uneasy ceasefire after 11 days of relentless conflict which saw over 250 Palestinians, including many civilians, killed and over 1900 injured, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry. Israel’s airstrikes were in response to rockets launched by Hamas towards Israeli territory.
Israeli officials defended their actions saying they did their utmost to avoid civilian casualties, blaming Hamas for deliberately placing military installations in populated areas.
However, the international community, while acknowledging Israel’s right to self-defense, has criticized the high civilian toll, urging all parties to uphold international law which requires proportionality in response to an armed attack.
Despite the recent ceasefire, tensions remain high with international leaders urging both sides to work towards a more permanent peace solution. They emphasize that this should involve protecting innocent lives, not considering them as an expendable part of a political and military agenda.
