The family of late Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo has initiated the legal process of establishing the full extent of his wealth following his death in a helicopter crash, bringing renewed attention to his business interests in Kenya and his reported relationship with President William Ruto.

Chivayo’s relatives have formally registered his estate with Zimbabwe’s Master of the High Court, marking the beginning of proceedings to establish the assets and liabilities he left behind.

The development has introduced fresh questions about the businessman’s financial empire, particularly his reported commercial connections beyond Zimbabwe.

The process is expected to provide a clearer picture of his extensive business interests, properties and investments. However, the actual value of his fortune remains undisclosed as the family awaits further legal steps in the administration of the estate.

In Kenya, particular interest has centred on his reported commercial connections and relationship with President William Ruto. His name previously featured in discussions surrounding the proposed expansion of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, a project that attracted public scrutiny over the companies and individuals associated with the proposed arrangement.

The Kenyan dimension has therefore become an important part of the wider questions emerging from the administration of his estate.

Chivayo died alongside his wife, Lucy Muteke, in a helicopter crash on September 30, leaving behind two minor children.

As the legal process unfolds in Zimbabwe, attention is turning to the fortune he accumulated, his business network and whether the assessment of his estate will provide further clarity about his reported investments and connections in Kenya.
