The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has apprehended three individuals believed to be the masterminds behind the violent chaos that marred the June 25 protests.

Acting on forensic intelligence and public leads, detectives intercepted the suspects during an attempted escape along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway. The trio, identified as John Mulingwa Nzau, alias Garang; Mark Amiani, alias Generali; and Francis Mutunge Mwangi, alias Chebukati, was dramatically arrested aboard a Mombasa-bound bus near Konza City.

According to authorities, the suspects had orchestrated and fueled acts of lawlessness, including looting and destruction of property, while pretending to support peaceful demonstrations.

DCI investigators revealed that the group used social media and encrypted communication to coordinate gangs and incite violence under the guise of political dissent.

Their arrest followed a trail of digital footprints and testimonies from affected citizens.

It is alleged that the suspects were en route to a coastal hideout in a bid to evade the ongoing crackdown.

However, their plans were foiled in what DCI has termed a firm statement against impunity and manipulation of democratic rights for criminal ends.

The three are expected to appear in court on Monday to face a litany of charges, including incitement to violence, arson, theft, and destruction of property.

Investigations remain ongoing, with authorities pursuing other individuals linked to the network.

The DCI has urged the public to distinguish between lawful protest and orchestrated lawlessness, emphasizing that the right to demonstrate should never be weaponized for personal or political gain.
