Nameless

Kenyan singer David Mathenge, popularly known as Nameless, has paid tribute to the late rapper E-Sir as he marked 23 years since the legendary artiste died in a tragic road accident.

In a heartfelt message shared on Facebook on Monday, March 16, 2026, Nameless recalled the strong friendship and brotherhood they shared, saying their bond was built on mutual respect and admiration.

He noted that even after more than two decades, E-Sir’s influence is still felt through his music and the memories he left behind.

“A friendship and brotherhood that was built on mutual respect and admiration! ESIR!! 23 years, still in our hearts, our minds, and our speakers! #EsirForever #March16/2003 #BoombaSalute #KenyanLegend,” Nameless wrote.

E-Sir died on March 16, 2003, following a road accident along the Nairobi–Naivasha highway. He was only 21 years old at the time, but had already risen to fame with several hit songs and was widely seen as one of the pioneers of modern Kenyan urban music.

On the day of the accident, E-Sir and fellow musicians, including Nameless, were travelling back to Nairobi after performing at a beauty contest in Nakuru when the vehicle they were in was involved in a crash.

Nameless survived the accident but sustained injuries, including a broken collarbone, and was left devastated by the loss of his close friend.

Despite his short career, E-Sir is remembered as one of the most influential figures in Kenya’s entertainment industry.

Many artistes credit him with helping shape the sound that later defined Kenyan music, and his songs continue to be played years after his death.

Media personality Talia Oyando also joined fans in marking the anniversary, sharing a touching tribute in which she described E-Sir as a legend whose presence is still felt today.

She praised his talent and influence, calling him the Greatest of All Time and saying his legacy continues to inspire new generations of musicians in Kenya.
