A police officer in Nakuru County has taken his own life after reportedly finding his wife in a compromising situation with his senior officer. The incident, which has shocked residents and colleagues, took place at the officer’s home on Saturday night.
According to reports, the officer had returned home unexpectedly from duty. Upon entering the house, he was shocked to find his wife and his senior colleague in a bedroom. The two were allegedly caught in the act, with the woman partially undressed.
Neighbours said they heard a loud commotion followed by a heated argument. The officer was seen leaving the house shortly afterward, visibly shaken and angry.
Later that night, the officer was found dead in his rented house, a short distance from his workplace. He is believed to have taken his own life using his service weapon. His body was discovered by fellow officers who had gone to check on him after he failed to report back to work.
“He was a quiet and disciplined officer,” said one of his colleagues. “We are all shocked. None of us expected something like this.”
The police have opened an investigation into the incident. The officer’s wife and the senior officer involved have been questioned. It is not yet clear whether disciplinary action will be taken against the senior officer.
The body of the deceased has been taken to the Nakuru County mortuary for a postmortem.
This tragedy has sparked discussions around mental health among police officers and the stress they face both at work and at home. Authorities have urged officers to seek help whenever they are troubled and not to suffer in silence.
Counseling services are expected to be offered to the officer’s family and colleagues in the coming days.
