Gideon Kirui has tied the knot with his German fiancée, Tabea Jasmin Schumann, after two years of dating and overcoming significant family opposition.
The couple first met in 2024 while Kirui was pursuing a Master of Arts in Sustainable Development at Tel Aviv University in Israel.
Tabea, originally from Hannover, Germany, was working with a Christian organization at the time. Their meeting took place during a church service at Hillsong Church in Tel Aviv, where their friendship quickly blossomed into a romantic relationship that ultimately led to marriage.
Kirui told TUKO.co.ke that his marriage was guided by faith, noting that without the hand of God, the union would have faced insurmountable obstacles.
Coming from a highly conservative Kenyan community, he had been warned against bringing home a white wife before even leaving for Israel.
Similarly, Tabea’s family initially raised concerns due to cultural and racial differences. These barriers made their relationship challenging, but the couple remained committed to each other and their shared faith.
Over time, both families gradually accepted the relationship. In November 2025, Kirui returned to Kenya with Tabea for her formal introduction, marking the beginning of their wedding preparations.
The couple acknowledged the cultural stereotypes and misconceptions that often surround interracial relationships, particularly between white women and black men.
However, with the support of their parents, friends, and church leaders, they successfully navigated these challenges.
Their wedding, described as colourful and full of joy, celebrated not only their love but also the triumph of faith, patience, and cultural understanding.
Kirui emphasized that their journey is a testament to the power of persistence, faith, and mutual respect, proving that love can transcend cultural and racial boundaries, when nurtured with commitment and support.
