Rev. Zainab Hussein, the founder and senior pastor of The Latter Glory Church in Ongata Rongai, Nairobi, has shared how a series of painful losses pushed her to rely on prayer as she struggled to rebuild her life.
Hussein lost her husband when their son was only eight years old, leaving her to raise the young boy while coping with the pain of widowhood.
However, her troubles did not end there. She later lost her two-year-old child, a tragedy that left her emotionally distressed, unwell and struggling to find hope.
The successive losses also affected her financial stability, forcing her to leave government housing and return home after her husband’s death.
Her situation became even more difficult when her father, whom she considered an important source of support, fell ill and died.
Reflecting on the painful period, Hussein suggested that the deaths of her husband and young child had deeply affected her father.
“The death of my husband and my boy took a toll on him, and he passed on,” she wrote.
With her mother living far away, Hussein found herself without the support system she needed as she battled grief and uncertainty about her future.
She was unemployed, unwell and struggling to cope with the weight of the tragedies that had changed her life.
Hussein said prayer became her main source of comfort during the difficult period, explaining that she had to hold on to her Christian faith despite the challenges she faced.
“The only thing I knew how to do was to pray. Mimi na maombi ni marafiki kabisa,” she stated, describing prayer as a constant companion.
Although she had already given her life to Christ, Hussein said she continued experiencing painful situations that tested her faith.
Her journey eventually led her into ministry, where she became the founder and senior pastor of The Latter Glory Church.
Today, she uses her experience to encourage people facing difficult circumstances not to lose hope, crediting Jesus Christ for the transformation in her life.
“Nakupea hii story ndio ujue, hakuna kitu Jesus hawezi fanya. He changes lives, He heals, delivers and blesses people,” she wrote.
Hussein also expressed gratitude for being alive, describing life itself as a miracle and reflecting on how faith helped her navigate some of her darkest moments.
