A Nairobi man has explained why he decided to end all communication with his girlfriend weeks after she attracted widespread attention online by crying on TikTok and publicly pleading with him to unblock her.
Sarah Nana, 22, became the subject of significant social media discussion after sharing an emotional video in which she broke down in tears while calling out her boyfriend, Joshua. According to Sarah, Joshua had blocked her on all communication platforms on August 1 without providing an explanation or warning.
The video quickly gained traction online, with thousands of people reacting to her emotional appeal. Her story eventually reached Kenyan YouTuber Oga Obinna, who invited her to appear on his programme, Obinna TV Extra, to explain what had happened.
During the interview, Sarah described her relationship with Joshua as a two-year romance that ended suddenly. She said she was left confused because she did not receive what she considered a satisfactory explanation for the breakup. She also claimed that she had heard rumours suggesting Joshua was involved with another woman while they were still dating, which she said made the situation even more painful.
Joshua later agreed to publicly give his side of the story, providing an explanation that differed significantly from Sarah’s account.
He said the relationship had become emotionally exhausting and claimed that Sarah frequently cried and demanded considerable attention and intimacy. Joshua explained that his demanding work schedule often left him tired, making it difficult for him to meet what he described as her emotional expectations.
He also revealed that he had not been truthful about his age during the relationship. Joshua said he initially told Sarah that he was 25, despite actually being 30, because he wanted to reduce the apparent age difference between them.
According to Joshua, he had made efforts to support Sarah during their relationship, including buying her gifts and helping with grooming expenses. He said he had also been working toward building a future together.
Joshua further disclosed that he asked Sarah to remove the viral TikTok video, but she declined. When Oga Obinna offered to finance a date so the couple could potentially reconcile, Joshua rejected the proposal, saying he would rather use the money for an investment.
Although Joshua acknowledged that he appreciated Sarah’s cleanliness and organisational skills, he maintained that he had reached a point where he could no longer cope with the emotional demands of their relationship.
