President William Ruto has been cautioned by political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi about an individual he claims could pose a serious political threat to his leadership. Ngunyi argues that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is at the centre of the challenges facing Ruto.
He further alleged that Gachagua is being influenced by former President Uhuru Kenyatta and external interests, which he loosely referred to as “the Russians,” describing Gachagua as a major internal risk within Ruto’s political circle. In his remarks, Ngunyi stated: “Dear Ruto: your problem is Riggy G. Uhuru and the Russians are just his masters.”
These comments came shortly after Gachagua publicly criticized the National Intelligence Service over recent protests, blaming NIS Director Noordin Haji for allegedly failing to anticipate or properly report on the planned demonstrations. Gachagua even called for Haji’s resignation, arguing that a more competent replacement should be appointed.
His remarks have drawn mixed reactions from Kenyans, with some linking the controversy to broader concerns about leadership within the UDA administration.
