Janet Museveni, Uganda’s First Lady and the wife of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has offered another public indication that she is doing well after months of speculation surrounding her health. Her latest public message came as she celebrated the birthday of her youngest daughter, Diana Kyaremera, through a post on her official X account.
In her birthday tribute, Janet reflected on Diana’s birth and expressed her affection for her daughter. She wrote, “We can not forget that this is the day a beautiful baby girl came into the world. That baby was Diana, the one who took her grandmother’s name, Kyaremera. So, happy birthday, Kyaremera. With all our love.”
The message attracted attention from many Ugandans, with some interpreting it as another sign that the First Lady is gradually resuming her normal public engagements. Although the post focused on celebrating her daughter’s birthday, it also reassured supporters who had been concerned about her prolonged absence from public events.
Diana Kamuntu Kyaremera, the youngest child of President Museveni and Janet Museveni, was born on June 30, 1980. As of 2026, she is 46 years old. She is the youngest among the couple’s four children, joining her siblings, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Natasha Karugire, and Patience Rwabwogo.
Earlier this year, reports claimed that Janet Museveni had fallen critically ill and had travelled abroad to receive specialized medical treatment. However, no official statement disclosed the nature of the reported illness or identified the medical facility where she allegedly received treatment. The lack of detailed information fueled widespread speculation, although many observers suggested that such matters were intentionally kept private due to security and confidentiality considerations often associated with senior government officials.
During the period of speculation, Janet was noticeably absent from several high-profile state functions attended by President Museveni, including major official ceremonies. In many of those appearances, the President was accompanied by his eldest daughter, Natasha Karugire, instead of the First Lady.
While no formal update has been issued regarding her health, Janet Museveni’s recent social media activity has been viewed by many as a positive sign that she is recovering and gradually returning to her usual public role.
