Gabriel Nyamu, a father from Murang, is looking for assistance in raising KSh 18 million to cover his daughter Leslie’s medical expenses at the age of 10.
Leslie was identified as having idiopathic chylothorax, an uncommon disorder that results in fluid leaking into the lungs from the lymphatic system.
Her ailment resulted in nutritional loss and collapsed lungs; she has been receiving treatment in five hospitals (three in India and two in Kenya) and has been in the intensive care unit for 29 weeks.
Only KSh 350,000 of the KSh 2.5 million local expenditure was covered by the SHA medical coverage; costs overseas were not covered.
Gabriel Nyamu told TUKO.co.ke that his baby daughter Leslie was diagnosed with a rare medical ailment called idiopathic chylothorax, and that the last 29 weeks had been challenging for him and his family.
This disorder develops when lymphatic fluid (chyle) seeps into the area surrounding your lungs, leading to difficulties. According to the father, Leslie has had 12 surgeries thus far in an attempt to seal the lymphatic leak.
In the last six months, relatives and friends have raised around KSh 9 million through fundraising; thus, the family needs assistance in raising the remaining KSh 9 million.
According to him, Leslie has made great progress in the last week, and they want to pay the debt so that she can return to school at last.
“She has made incredible progress in the past week, and we still have faith in God to cure her. Being a manifestation of God’s glory is her life motto. She really misses church and school,” he continued.
