Ugandan President’s son,”General Muhoozi”, has deleted a series of social media posts in which he issued threats against opposition leader “Bobi Wine”, a move that has sparked fresh debate about political intimidation and the use of social media by senior government figures.

The tweets, shared on his official X account, had drawn widespread criticism both locally and internationally for their aggressive tone. In the posts, the army general made remarks that were widely interpreted as threats toward the opposition politician, triggering concern among human rights groups and political observers.

Although the posts were later removed without explanation, their impact continued to reverberate online. Screenshots circulated widely, with critics accusing the general of abusing his position and undermining democratic freedoms. Supporters of the opposition argued that the messages reinforced fears of state-backed intimidation ahead of future political activities.

Government officials have not issued a formal statement explaining the deletion of the tweets. However, allies of the ruling establishment sought to downplay the incident, describing the remarks as personal opinions made on social media rather than official government policy.

Opposition figures and civil society groups have called for accountability, insisting that public officials, particularly those holding senior military positions, must exercise restraint and uphold constitutional principles. They warned that inflammatory language from powerful figures risks escalating tensions in an already polarized political environment.

The episode has once again highlighted the growing influence of social media in Uganda’s political landscape. Platforms such as X have become key arenas for political messaging, but critics argue they are increasingly being used to intimidate opponents rather than promote healthy debate.

As pressure mounts for clearer boundaries between personal expression and official responsibility, many Ugandans are watching closely to see whether the controversy will prompt broader discussions on political conduct, freedom of expression, and respect for democratic norms.
