Newly elected Ol Kalou MP Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru, popularly known as Ngotho, was officially sworn into office on Tuesday, July 28, following his decisive victory in the July 16 by-election.
The swearing-in marked his transition from MP-elect to a fully recognized Member of Parliament, making him eligible for the salary, allowances, and benefits attached to the position.
Like all legislators, the DCP lawmaker will receive a comprehensive remuneration package designed to support both his official responsibilities and personal welfare.
In addition to his monthly salary, Ngotho will enjoy several benefits, including a car loan, mortgage facility, airtime allowance, security, travel allowances, and other perks provided under the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) guidelines.
Under the SRC’s Third Remuneration and Benefits Review Cycle, the Ol Kalou legislator will earn a gross monthly salary of Ksh 739,600. This consists of a basic salary of Ksh 443,760, a house allowance of Ksh 150,000, and a salary market adjustment together with an official commuter allowance totaling Ksh 145,840.
Should he be appointed to a parliamentary committee, Ngotho will also qualify for a sitting allowance of Ksh 7,500 per meeting, with monthly payments capped at Ksh 120,000.
He will also be entitled to a Motor Vehicle Reimbursement of Ksh 7,550,000 to facilitate the purchase of an official vehicle, alongside a monthly vehicle maintenance allowance of Ksh 356,525.
Additionally, the MP will receive a monthly mileage allowance of Ksh 366,011 after the SRC extended the benefit to all 416 members of the National Assembly and Senate, regardless of constituency.
His benefits package also includes annual medical insurance covering himself, one spouse, and up to five dependent children under the age of 25. The cover provides up to Ksh 10 million for inpatient treatment, Ksh 300,000 for outpatient care, Ksh 150,000 for maternity services, and Ksh 100,000 each for dental and optical treatment.
Ngotho will further qualify for a car loan of up to Ksh 8 million and a mortgage of up to Ksh 35 million, repayable after the end of his term in office.
He will also receive daily subsistence allowances for local and international travel at SRC-approved rates, as well as a monthly airtime allowance of Ksh 15,000.
As part of his official privileges, the Inspector-General of Police will assign him security personnel, a benefit provided directly by the government rather than as a cash payment.
