Grief has engulfed Kandara and the wider Kangúi community after a grisly road crash at Kikopey claimed 13 lives, leaving families and friends shattered. The pain is still raw as leaders and residents struggle to come to terms with the sudden loss of loved ones.

Kandara MP Betty Maina joined in mourning, sending a heartfelt condolence message to the bereaved families. In her statement shared online, she prayed for comfort and strength for those left behind. Her message can be found here, where she pledged solidarity with the Kangúi community during this painful period.

The Kikopey accident is one of the worst tragedies witnessed along the busy Nakuru–Nairobi highway this year. Survivors described chaotic scenes as rescuers battled to save lives, while police officers confirmed that 13 people died on the spot. Bodies were ferried to nearby morgues as relatives rushed in disbelief, searching for their kin.

Kenyans online have turned the spotlight on road safety, questioning why such accidents keep happening despite endless government promises. Critics argue that poor enforcement of traffic rules, corruption in inspection units, and reckless driving remain major causes of these recurring tragedies.

Leaders from Murang’a and Nakuru counties are now under pressure to push for stricter safety measures on highways that continue to record deadly crashes. Residents insist that families cannot keep burying their loved ones while officials issue empty statements.

The Kangúi community, known for its resilience, is today in mourning. Churches have opened their doors for prayers as families prepare for multiple burials. The silence in Kandara tells of a people broken, yet determined to demand accountability to prevent another dark day like this.

For now, the nation mourns with Kangúi. But as questions mount, Kenyans are watching closely to see whether leaders will act or let this tragedy fade into another statistic.
