Geoffrey Mosiria, a senior officer with the Nairobi City County Government, has revealed a sad case involving a woman who was allegedly using a young boy to beg for money in the Central Business District.

According to Mosiria, two women recently visited his office with a young boy and reported that he was being forced to collect money on the streets by a woman who was not his biological mother.

They claimed the child would spend the entire day begging from passersby and later hand over the money to the woman.

Moments later, the woman accused of the act arrived at the office and claimed to be the boy’s mother. However, earlier information received by Mosiria had already raised suspicions that the child was being exploited.

When the boy was asked about his relationship with the woman, he said she was not his mother. The woman also failed to give clear and consistent information about the boy’s background, further increasing doubts about her claim.

The county officer took quick action to protect the child. The boy was placed under the care of a registered children’s home, and the matter was reported to the police. The woman was arrested and is now under investigation.

Mosiria said that even if it is later confirmed that the woman is the child’s mother, it is still wrong and illegal to make a child beg on the streets, especially during school hours. He noted that this case adds to the growing number of incidents where children are being misused by adults, sometimes by people who are not even related to them.

He called for stronger action to stop the exploitation of minors and reminded the public that every child has the right to education, safety, and proper care.
