Kuria

Former Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria is relying on his wife, Joyce Njambi, to prevent the auction of assets valued at Sh100 million.

This move comes as Kuria faces mounting financial challenges, including a Sh6.5 million defamation judgment awarded to Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua and Sh7.25 million in unpaid rent arrears for his Westlands property .

In a strategic legal maneuver, Kuria has transferred ownership of several assets to his wife, aiming to shield them from creditors.

This tactic is intended to complicate the auction process, as assets registered under a spouse’s name may not be directly targeted for debt recovery.

Legal experts note that while transferring assets to a spouse can offer temporary protection, courts may scrutinize such moves to determine if they are attempts to defraud creditors. If proven, the courts can reverse these transfers.

Kuria’s financial troubles have been compounded by previous legal battles. In 2020, Martha Karua initiated proceedings to recover the defamation award, leading to the attempted auction of Kuria’s personal belongings, including vehicles and household items .

As the situation unfolds, Kuria’s reliance on his wife’s legal standing highlights the complexities of asset protection in the face of debt recovery efforts.

The outcome of this case may set a precedent for how courts handle similar strategies employed by individuals facing financial liabilities.
