Saumu Mbuvi, the eldest daughter of prominent politician Mike Sonko, recently opened up about her experiences in the dating field, revealing that it has been a challenging journey for her. In an exclusive interview with SPM Buzz, Saumu shared that she has turned down numerous offers to date her.
Recalling her first-ever relationship, Saumu described her ex-partner as a traditional and rustic individual. She fondly remembered their time together, stating that they were both studying at JKUAT during their courtship. Despite his rustic nature, she admired his strong principles and respectful demeanor. “He was a well-mannered individual, brought up traditionally, and possessed a great deal of respect,” she chuckled as she reminisced.
One of the qualities that attracted Saumu to her former beau was his abstinence from alcohol and smoking. As the daughter of a politician, she found his devotion to God and the church endearing.
Saumu expressed her desire to be with someone who complemented her extroverted personality. She sought a partner who was the polar opposite of her character, someone reserved and calm.
The first gift her ex-boyfriend presented to her was during her graduation. Saumu recalled feeling overwhelmed as many people were vying to gift her, but he persevered and presented her with a generous sum of 300,000 Kenyan shillings.
Reflecting on their past relationship, Saumu acknowledged that she appreciated the memories and the lessons they provided. She emphasized the importance of not overthinking or overplanning one’s life, stating that those who are meant to stay will stay. Love and support, she asserted, should be constants in one’s life.
Saumu postponed her plans to pursue a Master’s degree abroad for the sake of love. She acknowledged that matters of the heart could be challenging but held no regrets, as they had resulted in the blessing of a beautiful and intelligent child.
The experience taught her the impact a partner can have on one’s personal growth. While some partners may seek to diminish their significant other, the right partner can empower them to achieve their goals and aspirations.
Saumu has also learned to keep her love life private, avoiding sharing it on social media. She believes that anything that brings her happiness should remain away from the scrutiny of the media.
Ultimately, she and her ex-boyfriend made the mutual decision to separate when their relationship was no longer working. Saumu explained that she chose to distance herself from anything that would mentally drain her.
Reflecting on her past actions, Saumu admitted regretting her previous attempts to market her “kienyeji” boyfriend on social media. She realized that she had inadvertently turned their relationship into a spectacle.
Despite their separation, Saumu and her ex-boyfriend maintain a cordial friendship and co-parent their child with great care. Their primary focus is ensuring their child’s happiness and well-being, allowing both parents to play an active role in their upbringing.
