Judy Wakhunugu

Prof. Judi Wakhungu is a prominent Kenyan figure: a geologist, academic, former Cabinet Secretary Minister for Environment, Water and Natural Resources (2013-2018) and former Ambassador to France, the Holy See, Portugal, Serbia, and Monaco appointed in 2018. She is also known for her pioneering role as Kenya’s first female geologist in several key positions and her work in conservation, including serving on boards like IFAW and WWF International.

Prof. Judi Wakhungu is the niece of Moody Awori.Moody Awori is her uncle specifically, her mother’s brother, as her mother was Grace Wakhungu, sister to Moody Awori

Prof. Wakhungu is a distinguished Kenyan geologist, academic, politician, and diplomat. .

She survived one more year of the President William Ruto’s regime until early this year when she was officially kicked out from Kenya Kwanza Government.

Wakhungu became one of the biggest casualties of regime change in Kenya after the 2022 general election.

She was thrust into the limelight in 2013 when she wss nominated by the then President Uhuru Kenyatta as environment Cabinet Secretary.

Prior to that appointment, she had made a name for herself in the world of academia where she rose to the position of associate professor at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.

She served as a CS for the entire first term of the Uhuru regime before changing her career path soon after the 2017 general election.

As Uhuru reconstituted his cabinet in 2018 as he embarked on his second and final term, Prof. Wakhungu was dropped from the cabinet. However, she was handed a soft landing after being appointed as Kenya’s Ambassador to France and other international agencies based in the French capital, Paris.
