A large number of enthusiastic youths on Monday thronged Chewoyet High School grounds in Kapenguria for the ongoing Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) recruitment exercise. The event, which drew hundreds of aspiring soldiers from West Pokot and neighboring regions, marked another step in the national operation aimed at strengthening Kenya’s military capacity.

From as early as dawn, long queues formed outside the field as hopeful recruits underwent initial screening for physical fitness, academic qualifications, and identity verification. KDF officers overseeing the process emphasized transparency, warning participants against falling prey to fraudsters who claim to influence recruitment outcomes.

Speaking at the venue, the lead recruiting officer assured the public that the exercise would be conducted strictly on merit. “We are looking for disciplined, committed, and physically fit individuals ready to serve their country,” he said, noting that equal opportunity was being given to both male and female candidates.

Local leaders commended the KDF for bringing the recruitment to Kapenguria, saying it offers a valuable opportunity for young people seeking stable careers and a chance to contribute to national security. They also urged parents to encourage their children to pursue military service as a noble calling.

Excitement filled the air as candidates completed various fitness tests, including running, push-ups, and medical checks. Some were visibly nervous, while others exuded confidence, eager to earn the much-coveted KDF uniform.

The exercise at Chewoyet High School is part of the nationwide recruitment drive that will run for several days across different counties. Successful candidates will later report to training institutions for further assessment and orientation into the ranks of Kenya’s defense forces.
