Veteran actors from the popular Kenyan show Vitimbi gathered to honor their late colleague, Mzee Ojwang’, at Lang’ata Cemetery.

Mzee Ojwang’, whose real name was Benson Wajau, passed away nearly nine years ago, leaving a lasting impact on Kenya’s film industry.

The actors, including the beloved Mama Kayai, visited his grave ahead of his upcoming ninth death anniversary.

The emotional visit included prayers led by Mogaka, another longtime actor from the show, with Mama Kayai visibly moved during the solemn ceremony.

In an interview with TUKO.co.ke, Mama Kayai expressed their intention to mark Mzee Ojwang’s anniversary in a special way this year.

She revealed plans to record a tribute which will be broadcasted on KBC, where Vitimbi has been a staple of entertainment for many years.

“Mzee Ojwang’s death anniversary is next month, and we have never celebrated his anniversary. This time we are going to commemorate him,” Mama Kayai shared with TUKO.co.ke.

The group of actors who joined the tribute included Mogaka, Ole Matope, Mwende, Katunge, Jakababa, Kabu, and Chemasunde.

They gathered not only to remember Mzee Ojwang’s contributions to the entertainment industry but also to pay respects at his graveside.

During the visit, Mama Kayai also spoke about the unfortunate theft of metal rails that once fenced Mzee Ojwang’s grave, emphasizing that only one piece of railing remains.

The emotional gathering underscored the deep bonds formed among the Vitimbi actors over the years, highlighting their enduring friendship and mutual respect for their late colleague.

The planned tribute on KBC aims to ensure that Mzee Ojwang’s legacy continues to be remembered and celebrated by audiences across Kenya.
