Cases of criminals attacking police officers while resisting arrest have been on the rise in several parts of the country, raising serious security concerns.
Tension gripped Matuu Town in Machakos County after a notorious gangster stabbed an Officer Commanding Station (OCS) before being shot during an arrest attempt.According to police reports, officers in Matuu had launched a manhunt for a suspect believed to be behind a series of robberies in the area.
They tracked him to a local trading centre and ordered him to surrender.
The suspect reportedly turned violent and attacked the OCS, stabbing him in the face with a knife.Source
A police source stated that after the gangster stabbed the officer, the OCS retaliated and shot the suspect in the leg as he attempted to escape.
Residents who witnessed the chaos fled for safety as police quickly subdued the suspect and secured the scene.
Both the OCS and the injured suspect were rushed to Matuu Level 4 Hospital in Yatta Sub-County for treatment.Source
