On October 19, social media was abuzz with images allegedly depicting a Ksh2.7 billion retirement mansion associated with former President Uhuru Kenyatta, located in Narok County. Speculation swirled about Uhuru potentially settling on a 1,000-acre farm in Oloolmongi, Trans Mara, with online rumors claiming the mansion was situated within the Maasai Mara.
The photos were widely shared with captions such as, “Uhuru’s new multi-billion home in the heart of Maasai Mara.” However, an investigation by Kenyans.co.ke revealed that the mansion in question actually belongs to Canadian ice hockey legend Wayne Gretzky and is located in Thousand Oaks, California, carrying a Ksh2.7 billion price tag. The image was traced back to a 2012 article on www.calgaryherald.com, disproving the recent claims.
Recent images of Uhuru in Narok have fueled speculation about his retirement plans. On October 13, he made a notable appearance at Zebu Lounge, where he reserved lunch for ten people, surprising the staff with his grand entrance. Uhuru also visited Partakilat Primary School, fulfilling a promise made during his presidency by donating a 53-seater bus to the school.
There are reports suggesting that Uhuru may indeed be planning to retire to his Trans Mara property, which he reportedly acquired in 2020 from the Olerien and Kengani group. The ranch overlooks the Maasai Mara Game Reserve, offering a unique view for tourists. Additionally, it is rumored that the former president has developed a multi-billion shilling tourist lodge on another parcel of land in the county.
