Traders at the Gikomba market are protesting and decrying the Nairobi county Government over the government’s plan to construct a modern block to end frequent fires and also fear of Land grabbing from the County government.

While others welcome the initiative as a timely move that will end the problems they have been encountering over the years, others have expressed fear.

They claim it is a plan to displace them from their premises as they have no other places to establish their Business.

The reactions come just days after the county government of Nairobi through His Excellency Johnson Sakaja announced a plan to construct a five-storey building at Gikomba.

“Why don’t they have compassion to come and displace, the Governor and County officials, because from their County office, the Governor has compromised people with this matter of displacement,” the residents claimed.

“We will collaborate with all organizations to ensure this land is not grabbed. We cannot accept it, because if we do, we will all find ourselves in trouble with the cartels here, since we voted,” another resident decried.
