On Thursday, August 17, politician Jimi Wanjigi addressed President William Ruto regarding the soaring cost of living. The president was present in Kiambu county for a church service and the ceremonial laying of the foundation stone for the ACK St. James Cathedral Church, Kiambu.
“Mr president, I must be sincere. That is a problem we are all facing. In fact when I was here last year, watu walikuwa na roho zaidi kuliko leo. Rais amekuja hapa mbona hamna ile roho ya ndani? (Today, people are heartbroken. The president is here, why are you not happy)?” Wanjigi posed.
Wanjigi, the previous Safina Party presidential contender, attributed the situation to the elevated cost of living.
He went on to add that it’s beneficial that the president was present, as he should comprehend the circumstances people are facing. Wanjigi emphasized that the nation is grappling with significant difficulties. Despite our discussions, a substantial portion of our tax funds are directed towards servicing debts. This, Wanjigi stated, is an area that requires concentrated attention.
In reply, the President assured Wanjigi that the elevated cost of living was beginning to decrease.
“Even the media has begun to acknowledge that the cost of living is on the decline. Maybe Jimi should take some time to read the newspapers. This is due to our well-structured plan,” Ruto remarked.
