The placement of students into higher learning institutions has entered a new phase following a key announcement affecting thousands of secondary school graduates across the country. The latest development is expected to provide another opportunity for eligible candidates to secure placement in universities and colleges.
The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has officially reopened its online application portal to allow a fresh round of submissions. The exercise targets candidates who sat the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations between 2000 and 2025, expanding access to a wide pool of applicants who may have missed earlier placement cycles.
According to KUCCPS, the reopened portal enables applicants to revise their course choices or apply for available programmes in universities, national polytechnics, technical training institutes, and teacher training colleges. The placement body stated that the move is part of ongoing efforts to ensure that available training opportunities are fully utilised while giving qualified candidates a fair chance to join institutions of their choice.
Applicants are required to log into the KUCCPS student portal, review available programmes, and submit their applications within the specified timeline. The placement service has advised candidates to carefully consider cluster requirements, subject performance, and programme qualifications before making their selections.
The reopening also aligns with the government’s broader objective of increasing access to higher education and technical training. KUCCPS continues to coordinate placement based on merit, capacity, and affirmative action policies where applicable.
Candidates who secure placement will be notified through the official portal and are expected to follow institutional guidelines for admission.
The exercise marks another step in streamlining student placement while ensuring inclusivity for both recent and past KCSE candidates seeking further education opportunities.
