KUCCPS portal closes for 2022 KCSE candidates K24 TV 2023 06 15 14

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has clarified that students applying for university and college courses in the current cycle will use the 2024 cut-off points as a reference.

KUCCPS says cut-off points are not fixed before applications begin. Instead, they are determined after the placement process, based on the cluster weight of the last student admitted into each programme.

The agency noted that since the ongoing placement process is still underway, the official 2025 cut-off points are not yet available. Applicants have therefore been advised to rely on the 2024 figures when selecting courses.

KUCCPS explained that the previous cut-off points give students an idea of the competitiveness of different programmes and help them make informed choices.

“Cut-off points are derived from the cluster weight of the last applicant placed competitively in a degree programme. The current cycle’s cut-off points can only be confirmed after placement is complete. Applicants should use earlier years as a guide,” KUCCPS said.

Students have been urged to compare their cluster weights with the 2024 benchmarks before applying. Those whose scores are above the previous cut-off points are considered to have a better chance of securing placement, though admission still depends on competition and available slots.

KUCCPS further stressed that placement is strictly based on merit, meaning that meeting past cut-off points does not guarantee admission.

Applicants have also been advised to check the specific requirements for each course and consider multiple options when making their applications.

Applications are being submitted through the KUCCPS student portal using KCSE index numbers and examination details. First-time users are required to use their KCPE index number or birth certificate number as a temporary password before resetting their accounts.

The application deadline for degree and TVET programmes is May 6, 2026. KUCCPS has encouraged students to apply early to avoid last-minute challenges.
