A hospitality management student from Kenyatta University recently lost an internship opportunity on her first day after the company failed to provide promised accommodation.
Miss Shee had applied for the position at a resort in Muranga a month in advance and was told by the human resources manager that housing would be available for the duration of the two month program.

She traveled from Nairobi with her belongings and began working in the kitchen immediately upon arrival. After finishing an eleven hour shift that ended at 9 pm, she was told that the resort could no longer provide a place for her to stay.
With no other options, she spent the night at the HR manager’s home. The following morning, she was informed that the company directors had officially declined to approve her housing, which ended her internship before it could properly begin.

The student has since been unable to reach the HR manager and is concerned about the impact this will have on her graduation, as the internship is a mandatory academic requirement.
She is currently seeking another placement in the hospitality industry to ensure she can complete her degree on time.
