A businessman in Chepseon, an area in the outskirts of Kitale, was hacked to death by a machete-wielding gang, while his wife was raped during the same attack.
The wife was later found abandoned in Kitale Town, injured. The incident happened on August 31, 2026, shortly after the couple left church.
Local residents reported that the businessman, identified as Mr. Njuguna, was killed on Sunday, August 30, after the couple left church together.
According to people who spoke after the incident, Mr. Njuguna was a well-known businessman in Kitale and was preparing to deliver products to customers when the attack occurred.
Residents said that after leaving church, the couple went home. Mr. Njuguna was reportedly in the process of getting ready to go and deliver items when a gang ambushed him.
The attack also involved his wife, who was with him at the home at the time.
Neighbors and nearby residents described hearing screams from the compound. They said they rushed toward the house after hearing the disturbance.
When they arrived, they found Mr. Njuguna bleeding heavily and already dead. Witnesses reported that he had deep machete or panga cuts, especially on his head and stomach.
After the killing, the wife was not found at the home.
Later, residents said she was discovered abandoned in Kitale Town, where she had been raped.
She was also reported to be injured.
The discovery shocked members of the community and family, as people struggled to understand how the attack was carried out.
At the time of reporting, the wife was receiving treatment at a hospital. Family members were also said to be working with residents as they try to get justice.
Police have reportedly launched an investigation into the incident. The family is seeking answers and accountability, and they want the attackers to be arrested and charged.
