Mother and Khalif

Khalif Kairo has broken his silence on the toughest choice of his life. The car dealer and commercial pilot revealed he was the one who had to authorize the end of his mother’s treatment.

Speaking on a recent podcast appearance, Kairo shared that his mother, Lucy Wambui Kairo, fell seriously ill back in 2020 and slipped into a coma. Doctors expected her to last only a few weeks. She proved them wrong, holding on for six more years.

During that stretch, she stayed involved in her son’s life, regularly checking on his progress through pilot training and looking forward to the day he would qualify. That day came, though her health kept slipping.

Early this year, doctors delivered devastating news. Her liver and kidneys had failed, and there was nothing left to try. Kairo said he pushed back at first, asking the medical team to explore every option. Eventually he accepted there was none.

As her only son, the final call fell on him. He signed the papers to withdraw life support, a moment he described as the most painful of his life. His mother passed away on February 15, 2026.

Kairo also admitted the grief left him unable to work for close to three months afterward.
