A normally routine domestic dispute turned deadly after a 58‑year‑old man was tragically stabbed to death while trying to break up a fight between two women in Kaplemeiwet village, Belgut Constituency, Kericho County. The incident has left the community in shock and mourning.
According to Belgut Sub‑County Police Commander Charles Kibati, the deceased named as Hillary Kipkemoi rushed to assist his mother‑in‑law, one of the women involved in the altercation.
The other woman, reportedly enraged, pulled out a knife and fatally stabbed Kipkemoi in the neck. The life‐saving attempt ended in fatal consequences right on the spot.
The suspect, a 58‑year‑old tea picker residing in the area, was arrested at a hideout in Keongo, Nyagacho, following a swift police investigation.
The body of Kipkemoi was taken to Kericho Referral Hospital awaiting a post mortem, while investigations continue.
The incident underscores the dangers of domestic conflicts and reinforces calls from local leaders and community organisers for stronger preventive measures and safe mechanisms for intervention.
The harrowing outcome for someone simply attempting to help highlights how quickly volatile situations can spiral.
Family members of the deceased described him as a devoted father and husband, expressing shock at how a routine act of assistance ended in such tragedy. “He was just trying to help. He never expected this,” said one relative.
Police are now appealing for witnesses who may have been in the vicinity at the time of the altercation, as they piece together the full sequence of events. In the meantime, the community grieves the loss of a man who stepped in to bring peace and paid the ultimate price.
