enyans have expressed outrage following the United Democratic Alliance’s (UDA) decision to summon nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba for associating with former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i.

The party’s disciplinary committee ordered Orwoba to appear before it on May 16, citing gross misconduct and disloyalty after she was spotted at JKIA welcoming Matiang’i and later accompanied him to a rally in Kisii.

According to the summons signed by UDA disciplinary chair Charles Njenga, Orwoba’s actions violate the party’s code of conduct and Article 75 of the Constitution.

She is also accused of making anti-government remarks during a radio interview and allegedly promoting another political outfit while still holding UDA membership.

The senator, already battling a turbulent political career marked by Senate suspensions, risks further disciplinary action, including expulsion, if found guilty.

However, UDA’s move has sparked a social media storm, with many Kenyans calling out perceived hypocrisy.

Wilson Kimani asked why President William Ruto wasn’t also summoned for “cohabiting with Raila Odinga,” accusing UDA of selective punishment.

Robert Kebaso echoed similar sentiments, stating, “If she will be summoned then also Ruto should be summoned for going to the opposition and forming a bread-based marriage.”

Orwoba, previously suspended for 79 days over unproven claims against the Senate clerk, was only recently reinstated after serving a reduced 30-day suspension.

As UDA tightens its grip on internal discipline, the backlash highlights growing public frustration with the party’s leadership style and internal contradictions.
