A Kenyan woman known as Achieng

A Kenyan woman known as Achieng is celebrating with pure joy after completing the legal adoption of a baby girl she once found abandoned by the roadside and has since raised as her own daughter. Achieng’s emotional journey began months earlier when, on her way to work, she heard faint cries coming from a bush and discovered a tiny infant wrapped in a worn shawl with no adult nearby. The baby, barely a week old and vulnerable to cold and insects, was rushed to authorities and medical professionals before being placed under Achieng’s care.

Despite having no preparation and many unknowns ahead, Achieng embraced motherhood with compassion and determination. Initially, she struggled to breastfeed the newborn but persevered because the closeness comforted the baby, now named Zawadi. The little girl has since grown into a healthy and happy toddler who eats regular meals and has become an integral part of Achieng’s family. Even the household dog has shown protective affection toward her.

Completing the adoption process brought Achieng immense relief and peace of mind, knowing Zawadi is legally and forever her daughter. For months, she lived with anxiety about the possibility of someone else claiming the child, but the finalisation of adoption lifted that burden. Achieng expressed profound pride and gratitude, reflecting on how a chance discovery of a vulnerable infant transformed into a story of love, resilience, and belonging.

Her experience highlights both the challenges and profound rewards of adoption, especially when rescuing and nurturing a child in need. What started as a heartbreaking moment by the roadside has culminated in a permanent and joyful mother‑daughter bond.
