For almost one year now, former University of Nairobi Council chairperson Prof. Amukowa Anangwe haa maintained a very low public profile since his surprise resignation from top government position.
Prof. Anangwe, a renowned scholar, was appointed as President William Ruto to chair the University of Nairobi council in 2023. But in 2025, he called it quits after weeks of public and political pressure.
Initially, in February 2025, his appointment as University of Nairobi Council chairperson was revoked by education cabinet secretary Julius Migos Ogamba. He rushed to court and was reinstated. But his trouble was far from over.
The former health cabinet minister who served under the late President Daniel Arap Moi, was Butere MP for one term since his election to Parliament in 1997.
In 2002, he was defeated by flamboyant Wycliffe Oparanya, who has gone on to become one of thd most influential figures in Kenyan politics today.
As for Prof Anangwe, he has never made a political comeback ever since. His appointment as University of Nairobi Council chairperson was the first state job he had held since 2002.
