Maara Member of Parliament Kareke Mbiuki has admitted that those who supported the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua never anticipated the political consequences that followed.

Speaking during a public event, Mbiuki revealed that they believed Gachagua’s political influence would fade away within a few months after his impeachment. However, to their surprise, he has emerged as a powerful and influential political figure in the Mount Kenya region.

The legislator described Gachagua as a “political monster” whose growing popularity has caught many by surprise, noting that his resilience has reshaped the political landscape in the region.

Mbiuki’s remarks come at a time when Gachagua has been actively holding meetings with Mount Kenya leaders, calling for unity and championing economic revival for the region.

He explained that the impeachment was initially intended to silence Gachagua politically, but it has instead strengthened his bond with ordinary citizens who now view him as a symbol of courage and regional pride.

Several political analysts have also noted that Gachagua’s rising popularity could significantly influence future alliances ahead of the 2027 General Election if he continues to gain public sympathy.

Residents across the Mount Kenya region have expressed mixed opinions, with some commending Gachagua for remaining firm under pressure, while others argue that his approach is still too confrontational.

As political temperatures rise, Mbiuki’s confession has sparked fresh discussions on whether Gachagua’s resurgence could redefine the political direction of the Mount Kenya region in the years to come.
