Kanyari

Pastor Victor Kanyari is once again the subject of online discussion after a video, showing him dancing with a young woman, at a political rally in Nairobi resurfaced and quickly spread across social media.

The clip captures Kanyari on stage as music plays through a large sound system while supporters cheer from the crowd. A rap song can be heard in the background as the event continues, with a sound truck parked nearby and dozens of attendees watching the entertainment.

During the performance, a young woman joins Kanyari on stage and begins dancing close to him. The pastor briefly dances along before smiling and stepping away as the audience erupts in applause and cheers.

The footage was later shared by Kanyari himself on his Instagram page, where he accompanied it with a light-hearted caption admitting that dancing was not one of his strengths. “I’m not good at dancing,” he wrote.

While the pastor appeared to laugh off the moment, the video generated widespread debate for a different reason. Many social media users focused less on his dance moves and more on whether the interaction was appropriate given his role as a religious leader.

Kanyari has built a large public profile over the years as a preacher and faith healer, making any appearance outside the church closely scrutinised by both supporters and critics.

As the clip circulated online, reactions were sharply divided. Some users argued there was nothing wrong with the pastor enjoying himself at a public event, saying the brief dance had been blown out of proportion.

Others, however, questioned whether the close interaction with the woman reflected the conduct expected of a man of the cloth. Several commenters cited his position in ministry, arguing that religious leaders are often held to a higher standard because of their influence on followers.

The discussion quickly spread across various social media platforms, with users sharing differing opinions on the incident. Some defended Kanyari’s actions as harmless entertainment, while others maintained that public figures in religious leadership should exercise greater caution during public appearances.

The resurfaced video has once again placed the controversial preacher at the centre of online conversation, highlighting how quickly old clips can regain attention and generate fresh debate.

Despite the criticism and speculation, Kanyari has not publicly addressed the reactions beyond the humorous caption accompanying the original video.

The footage continues to attract comments from Kenyans, reflecting the differing expectations people hold for religious leaders and other prominent public figures when appearing at political and public events.
