Veteran Ugandan comedienne Anne Kansiime has revealed that she once paid her own dowry due to pressure from her father. Speaking in an interview with NRG Radio Uganda, Kansiime explained that her father had grown impatient and constantly reminded her to push her then-partner to fulfill the traditional obligation.

At the time, the award-winning entertainer was financially stable, running a successful business, and earning well. Frustrated by the repeated conversations about dowry, she decided to handle it herself. “I was tired of my father asking me to remind the man I was with. Since I was making good money, I thought, ‘Why not give daddy this money so we stop talking about it?’” she said.

Kansiime also revealed that after making the payment, she kept reminding her partner about it, but he never brought it up again. Reflecting on the experience, she stated that she has no regrets. “Everything that has happened in my life has brought me to where I am today. Regretting something that is already in the past has no impact on the present,” she added.

The comedienne’s revelation sparked mixed reactions online. Some men expressed admiration, saying they wished to find women as independent as her, while many women declared they would never take such a step in the name of love.

This revelation comes amidst recent speculation about her split from her husband, Skylanta, with whom she shares a son. However, Skylanta dismissed the online chatter, emphasizing that both of them were fine and moving on with their lives. Despite the personal challenges, Kansiime remains positive, using her experiences as life lessons. Her story is a testament to resilience and breaking societal norms in her own unique way.
