M. Kuria

Former CS Moses Kuria has spoken after drama erupted at a Democracy for Citizens Party rally in Kipipiri. The rally turned chaotic when residents openly rejected local MP Wanjiku Muhia as she tried to address them. Kuria later told her on X that no slogan or party could protect any leader from the wrath of an informed Mt Kenya voter. He reminded her that he had warned her before but she ignored him.

The chaos broke out as soon as Muhia took the microphone. Her attempt to speak was drowned by loud heckles from the crowd. Despite repeated pleas from former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, the people refused to listen. Muhia was left visibly shaken as her words were completely blocked by the angry voices.

In a bid to calm the crowd, Gachagua called another speaker known as Kongo. His remarks softened the atmosphere for a moment but the heckles soon returned. Later a local MCA stepped forward asking residents to stay peaceful. His appeal showed the depth of frustration and anger among the people.

The Kipipiri incident has added pressure on Gachagua who is already struggling to keep DCP stable. Just a day earlier, Duncan Mbui from Mbeere North had abandoned the party. He declared he would run as an independent candidate accusing DCP of being run in secrecy like a closed club.

On the same weekend protests also erupted in Meru. Party members were angered after chairman Timothy Kithinji was abruptly replaced by James Mithika. Locals accused leaders of making decisions behind closed doors without consulting members. The unrest exposed deep cracks inside the young party.

To manage the growing tension, Gachagua hosted over 200 aspirants at his Mathira home. He assured them that nominations would be fair and transparent. He promised no aspirant would be sidelined. But the Kipipiri chaos that followed quickly tested his assurances and left the party looking fragile.

The harsh treatment of Wanjiku Muhia sent a clear signal about voter dissatisfaction in Mt Kenya. For Gachagua, the event was another reminder of the tough road ahead as he tries to build trust in a party already facing revolt.
