Sifuna and ruto

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has ignited fresh political debate after claiming that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is facing betrayal from individuals within his own political circle.

Speaking in senate as reported, Sifuna expressed disappointment over what he described as a coordinated effort by some of Raila’s longtime allies to undermine the late and veteran opposition leader. In a statement that has since drawn widespread attention, Sifuna remarked that, for the first time, he would not blame President William Ruto for the challenges facing Raila politically.

“What is most embarrassing is that Raila is being betrayed by his own people. On this one, for the first time, I am not going to blame Ruto,” Sifuna said.

The remarks come amid growing speculation about internal divisions within ODM following recent political realignments. Observers have pointed to disagreements over strategy, succession politics, and cooperation with the Kenya Kwanza administration as some of the issues creating friction within opposition ranks.

Sifuna’s comments are likely to intensify scrutiny of ODM’s internal dynamics, particularly as the party seeks to maintain unity ahead of future political contests.
