Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi has responded to reactions from residents over whether they support the “Wantam” or “Tutam” campaign ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Wamumbi shared a video on his official Facebook page in which he asked Mathira residents to state whether they stood with “Wantam” or “Tutam.” He also questioned whether President William Ruto should be considered part of the “Tutam” or “Wantam” camp.
The residents’ response appeared to favour “Tutam,” a slogan suggesting that they want both President Ruto and their area MP to secure another term in office in 2027.
The “Wantam” slogan has gained traction on social media, where it is commonly used to suggest that Ruto should serve only one term. Wamumbi said he was puzzled by the apparent contrast between what is being said online and the views he is hearing from people at the grassroots.
According to the MP, the opinions expressed by ordinary residents should be taken seriously because they represent what voters are saying on the ground. He expressed confidence that Mathira residents would turn out to vote for both him and Ruto in the 2027 election.
“I don’t understand; social media wanasema ni WANTAM, mashinani wanasema ni TUTAM,” Wamumbi said. “I believe mashinani ndio wanaongea ukweli, na hamuwezi ficha IDs zao, wataweka TUTAM kabla mfike.”
