President William Ruto is set to begin his development tour of the Mt. Kenya region on Tuesday, April 1. However, his visit will be without five key political figures who played a major role in his 2022 election victory.
These leaders are former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, former Cabinet Secretaries Moses Kuria, Justin Muturi, Mithika Linturi, and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro.
Moses Kuria, who currently serves as one of Ruto’s many economic advisors, will also not be part of the tour. His absence, along with that of the other influential leaders, has raised questions about Ruto’s current political standing in the region.
Political analyst Charles Njoroge believes this visit will test Ruto’s ability to navigate Mt. Kenya politics without their support. He points out that these figures have significant influence, while those still loyal to Ruto lack the same appeal.
