A young mother from Kiambu has been thrust into a medical crisis after her only child, eight-year-old Talia Chloe, suffered a stroke while already living with sickle cell anaemia.

The child is currently admitted to the intensive care unit at Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital in Nairobi, where her condition remains critical.

Her mother, 30-year-old Rebecca Okoyo, is now appealing for KSh 2 million to cover the growing hospital bill and secure her daughter’s ongoing treatment.

The situation escalated earlier this month when Talia, who had been managing sickle cell complications, began showing signs of severe distress.

A stroke was later confirmed, worsening her already fragile condition. She was rushed into intensive care, where she has remained under close observation as her medical team works to stabilize her.

With no formal employment and limited financial support, Rebecca found herself overwhelmed by the sudden need for long-term, specialized care.

Talia’s condition requires continuous neurological monitoring, advanced medications, and around-the-clock medical attention all of which have significantly increased the family’s expenses.

Before the stroke, the family had been managing Talia’s health through regular hospital visits and home-based care.

The unexpected complication altered everything, forcing the young girl into a prolonged hospital stay.

Doctors have indicated that Talia could be discharged and continue recovery from home once her condition improves and the outstanding bill is settled in full.

Since her daughter’s admission, Rebecca has remained by her side day and night. She has depended on small contributions from friends and well wishers, but the total amount raised remains far from the required figure.

By Saturday, July 26, 2025, only a portion of the KSh 2 million had been collected.

She continues to plead for urgent support, hoping that the generosity of the public can help bring her daughter back home and give her a second chance at life.
