Peter Ayiro, a long-serving teacher at Alliance Girls High School, has found himself at the center of a growing storm after allegations of sexual harassment surfaced, sparking outrage among current and former students.

On Thursday, tension gripped the prestigious institution as hundreds of former students staged a rare protest within the school compound, chanting slogans and carrying placards demanding Ayiro’s immediate resignation and prosecution.

The demonstrations, marked by anger and emotional testimonies, pointed to years of alleged abuse that victims claim was swept under the rug by the school’s administration.

The accusations against Ayiro are serious. He is alleged to have sexually harassed multiple students—some of them minors—over a period spanning several years.

Former students claim that complaints had previously been dismissed or ignored, creating a culture of silence and fear within the school.

The backlash has forced the Ministry of Education to respond swiftly. Principal Secretary for Education, Dr. Julius Bitok, issued a strongly-worded statement calling for Ayiro’s immediate arrest and prosecution. “There is no place in our education system for teachers who prey on students.

The safety of learners must come first,” said Bitok, urging the police and relevant authorities to investigate the matter with urgency and transparency.

As investigations begin, Ayiro’s fate hangs in the balance, with pressure mounting from alumni, parents, and child rights organizations.

Meanwhile, current students have been offered counseling support as the school grapples with the fallout from the scandal.

The case has reignited national concern over sexual abuse in learning institutions and is likely to set a precedent on how such matters are handled in the future.

For now, all eyes remain on Alliance Girls as the search for justice begins.
