On Monday morning, people in Nairobi town were shocked and confused. Many unknown people entered the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) riding on boda bodas. They were shouting loudly, saying “Hakuna maandamano,” which means “There is no protest.”
These people came in a big number. They arrived quickly on boda bodas and started moving around town. They were shouting the same words again and again. No one knew where they came from or who sent them. They were not carrying weapons, but their actions made people in town very scared.
Some of the people walking in town ran away, thinking something bad was going to happen. Shopkeepers started closing their shops because they feared there might be trouble. Others stood outside their shops, watching with worry. They did not understand if these people were protesting or trying to stop a protest.
Police officers were seen walking around the CBD. They looked surprised just like everyone else. Some officers followed the boda boda riders. Others stood in groups talking, maybe trying to plan what to do. But the police did not arrest anyone or stop them immediately.
The boda boda riders kept riding around while shouting “Hakuna maandamano.” Some carried placards with the same words. After some hours, a few riders started leaving, but others stayed and continued moving in town.
People on social media started asking questions. They wanted to know who these people were and why they were doing this. Some thought they were sent by someone to cause confusion. Others said it looked like a protest in a different way.
Until now, no group or leader has said they were part of the action. Even the police have not given any statement. There was no fighting or damage, but many people stayed worried.
